Minutes of the
SMCHA ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
HOPEFIELD MENNONITE CHURCH
February 4, 2001 2:30PM

(These minutes need to be formally approved at the 2002 annual meeting.)

A welcome and opening remarks were given by Arnold Wedel.

Neva Belle Adamson Stucky led in devotions. She read several verses of Scripture and reminded us how thankful we should be that our forefathers chose to preserve the faith. The symbols of our roots are like threads that run through our Swiss Mennonite history and we must keep them alive. She then closed with prayer.

The secretary read the minutes of the Feb. 6, 2000 annual meeting. Motion by N. Paul Stucky, seconded by Jacob D. Goering to accept the minutes. Carried.

A tribute to Elmer Schrag was given by Delbert Goering.

Delbert Goering gave the treasurer's report.
   Balance on hand. 2-1-2000 $4251.21
   Receipts $3714.11
   Disbursements $4022.61
   Balance on hand. 1-31-2001 $3942.71

   Money Market $5165.23
   Cemetery Endowment Fund $12037.59
   Cemetery Directory Building Fund $706.87

Motion was passed to accept the treasurer's report as presented.

Milton M. Goering presented the election ballot. The following were elected:

   President Arnold M. Wedel
   Vice-president Rich Preheim
   Secretary Vernell Kaufman
   Board members Ozzie Goering, Maynard Krehbiel


Arnold Wedel reviewed the events of the past year.
   --Fall Festival Program at Bethel
   --Banquet at the First Mennonite Church of McPherson
   --Adopted a policy to send the board meeting minutes to all churches who have Schweitzer members.
   --Decided to have three persons on each of the Scholarship, Research and Nominating committees for a three year term, one going off and one new one coming on each year.

T. James Goering reported on the SMCHA Web site showing on the screen the home page and some of the information available by clicking on to the different links. He outlined some steps for SMCHA to take next. 1. Find a webmaster. 2. Commit to funding . 3. Look at the content and advise any changes.

Harold Schrag reported on the cemetery building. The footing has been poured. As soon as weather permits, construction will continue. Funds are needed. Arnold Wedel handed out suggested guidelines for giving--individual heritage charts where $1.00 is given for each of your ancestor buried in Hopefield.

Maynard Krehbiel told about Lee Mondrow witching for unmarked graves at Hopefield. None were found in the proposed site for the cemetery building.

Two printed hand-outs were distributed.
1. T. James Goering's "A Vision for the SMCHA".
2. A revised version of "A Dream for Hopefield" by Jacob D. Goering.

Separating the membership dues from the annual banquet meal expenses were discussed. No final decisions made.

Delbert presented the proposed budget for 2001 and moved its adoption. Harold seconded it. Carried.

Adopted Budget: Mowing $500, Scholarships $1000, Insurance $225, Marker Maintenance $250, Research Projects $300, Honoraria $200, Postage and Printing $50,
Sec. of State Fee $20, Web page preparation $455. Total $3000.

Dale Stucky who helped organize SMCHA was in attendance and was recognized.

Announcement was made that leftover souvenirs and tapes are for sale in the lobby.
