The SMCHA Board met March 8, 2001 at 10am at the Moundridge Senior Center with President Arnold Wedel presiding. Present were Arnold Wedel, Delbert Goering, Maynard Krehbiel, Glenn Stucky, Ben J. Stucky, Rich Preheim, Leann Toews, Harold Schrag and Vernell Kaufman.

Minutes of the Feb. 4 annual meeting were reviewed. The minutes will be formally accepted at the next annual meeting.

Arnold received word that First Mennonite of Moundridge has agreed to deed to SMCHA their interest in the property which contains the 1943 marker. Arnold was authorized to ask Eden and Hopefield to do the same. No reply yet.

Minutes of the Jan. 8 meeting were reviewed and approved by consensus.

Delbert gave the Treasurer's report. As of 3/8/01
   Checking Account $3602.58
   Money Market $5165.23
   Cemetery Endowment Fund $12126.48
   Cemetery Directory Building Fund $2501.87

Motion by Ben, seconded by Leann to accept the treasurer's report. Carried.

Arnold asked for comments about the annual meeting. Attendance should have been better. Comments about membership dues and budget were appreciated.

The Web page was discussed. Arnold is keeping in touch with Jim. Not much to report. No Webmaster yet. Arnold will be contact person.

No progress on the cemetery building.

Raising money for the cemetery building was discussed. Letters have been sent to the churches. Personal contacts should be encouraged.  After the building is begun, an announcement from the church pulpit might be in order. Rich Preheim will check with Schowalter Foundation about the possibility of getting some grant money.

The membership issue was discussed at great length. No agreement was reached.

How can we get more interest in SMCHA? Monthly Schweitzer meetings where only Schweitzer is spoken was suggested.

Maynard had a suggestion for a possible fund raiser--plowing with draft horses.

Discussion as to whether all officers and candidates for office need to be members of the organization. Delbert will check the by-laws.

Announcement was made that Ben J. Stucky is the new head trustee.

Adjourned at 11:50am. Next Meeting--Thursday, May 3 at the Moundridge Senior Center at 10am.
