SMCHA BOARD MEETING MINUTES October 4, 2001

The SMCHA Board met Oct. 4, 2001 for a breakfast meeting at the home of Vernell Kaufman with Arnold Wedel presiding. Present were Arnold Wedel, Rich Preheim, Delbert Goering, Leann Toews, Maynard Krehbiel, Harold Schrag, Ozzie Goering and Vernell Kaufman. Ben J. Stucky and Glenn Stucky were absent.

Minutes of the Sept. 6 meeting were reviewed.

Motion by Leann, seconded by Rich to accept the minutes. Carried.

Delbert gave the treasurer's report. Oct. 1, 2001.

Cemetery Endowment $ 13,228.61
Money Market $ 5,261.96

 

Expenses for Cemetery Building up to Oct. 2, 2001 are $3,958.55.
Motion by Rich, seconded by Leann to accept the treasurer's report. Carried.

Fall Festival program to be held Oct. 13 at 9am. Ozzie will be emcee. Other numbers by Lowell Goering, Jim Stucky, Clemon Kaufman, and Levi Krehbiel. Leann will talk to Vic Goering about a microphone and music stand.

Fall Membership banquet will be held Oct. 29, 6:30pm at the Eden Church with the Dorcas ladies serving the meal. Suggestion was made that one ethnic dish be served. Dorcas ladies need to know how many to prepare for by Oct. 22 so ticket deadline is Oct. 21. William Keel is the> speaker. Maynard and Marlene have arranged for the other numbers on the program. Delbert will print tickets, make posters and publicize the banquet in the local papers. Rich will put an ad in "The Mennonite." Vernell will send announcements to the churches. Those who have contributed towards the cemetery building the past year can buy banquet tickets for $10.

Report by Arnold that the Web is still not working.

Eden has given permission to deed to SMCHA their 1/3rd interest in the "1943" marker property. Motion by Ozzie, seconded by Harold that we accept the transfer of the "1943" marker property. Carried.

Reported that the Cemetery Directory Building has been completed except for the display case. Directory committee should begin to work on the records.

Delbert reported that someone inquired about reserving a burial plot in the Hopefield Cemetery. They have been asked to hand in a drawing showing which plot they would like to reserve. The status of the Hopefield Church was discussed. SMCHA put together the following statement.

"We affirm the creation of an ad hoc committee to explore the possibilities of acquiring and maintaining the Hopefield Mennonite Church building. We ask that the committee keep SMCHA apprised of its work."
