SMCHA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 3, 2002

The SMCHA Board met Jan. 3, 2002 at the home of Maynard Krehbiel. After a delicious breakfast, Arnold Wedel presided at the meeting. Present were Arnold Wedel, Delbert Goering, Ozzie Goering, Maynard Krehbiel, Leann Toews, Harold Schrag, Ben Stucky and Vernell Kaufman. Rich Preheim and Glenn Stucky were absent.

Minutes of the Nov. 8 meeting were reviewed. Motion by Ozzie, seconded by Ben to accept the minutes as corrected. Carried.

Treasurer's report was given by Delbert as of 12-31-01
(includes year-end dividends)
Checking account $4820.50
Savings $1943.56
Money Market Cert. $5348.74
Cemetery Endowment Fund $14,133.38

Motion by Ozzie, seconded by Ben to accept the Treasurer's report.  Carried.

The agenda for the annual meeting was discussed. It will be Sunday, Feb. 3 at Hopefield at 2:30pm. Val Krehbiel will have devotions. A budget was proposed for 2002. Discussion whether nominees from the Pretty Prairie area should be put on the ballot so that one would be elected from that area.

Von Peterson checked the graves in the cemetery and will send a list and cost estimates of the graves that need to be repaired. Question as to how the money would be collected.

Maynard and Glenn will take care of the badgers in the cemetery. Arnold noted that someone needs to be responsible to take care of the weeds that grow at the historical marker. Sounds like a job for the trustees. The cemetery bulletin board has not arrived yet.

Victor R. Goering and Arnold visited the Peabody area to try to find information concerning our people who died and were buried while living temporarily in Peabody.

Discussion as to whether we wish to put out a SMCHA newsletter. Donna Neufeld has consented to be editor if we so desire. No definite action was taken.

T. James Goering was not able to be at the meeting to report on the Web. Arnold reported that the Keel paper will be on, and also information about Waldo Wedel.

Rick Krehbiel has consented to serve on the Nominating committee instead of the Research committee. Suggested committee appointments for next year were made. Scholarship--Art Goering. Research--Dale E. Schrag and James W. Krehbiel. Nominating--Gordon Schrag. Arnold will ask Betty Hartzler to serve on the web committee.
