Maynard and Marlene Krehbiel were chairmen. Nine board meetings during the year. Board voted to put out two newsletters with Donna Neufeld as editor. Donnna Neufeld asked for ideas and support for the newsletter. Since T. James Goering was unable to attend the meeting, Vic Goering read T. James' report concerning SMCHA Home Page. Some of the information and ideas given were as follows: A Board decision to develop a home page for SMCHA was made in 1999. Much of the technical work was done by Dwight Claassen during 1999 and 2000. In mid 2001 the board enlisted the services of Eugene Waltner as "webmaster." He is now providing these services free of charge but if the work becomes more demanding he may need to be paid. Web committee includes T. James Goering (chairman) and Vic Goering. The home page currently has 12 links. A "counter" to the home page will soon be added which will determine the number of viewers within a specified time period. It was suggested by the Web chairman to review the operation of the home page at the beginning of 2003 and then a decision by the Board as to whether to continue the activity. Ozzie Goering, representing the Scholarship committee reported that circulars concerning scholarships were given to the surrounding churches and only one application was received. Jim Ostlund received $250 because he was only attending Great Plains Seminary half-time. Ben Stucky reported that the cemetery building has been completed except for putting information into the directory display case. Total cost is now $9916.38. Will be getting row markers for the graves and maybe some landscaping. Committee for the directory display case is Larry Stucky, James W. Krehbiel, Martha Graber, Mervin Schrag and Arnold Wedel. Arnold Wedel asked Mervin Schrag to make a recommendation as to how to recognize Peter P. J. Schrag for giving the seed money for the cemetery building. Rich Preheim chaired the discussion about membership. He asked what we can offer those who are members? Harley Stucky suggested maybe we could invite other Mennonites besides Schweitzers to join our membership. Also we need to get interested young people involved. Election was conducted by Rich Preheim. Milton Goering explained the process involved in setting up the nominees. The following were elected: President--Arnold Wedel Treasurer--Jay Rodney Goering Board members--Ben Stucky, Gary Stucky Delbert Goering presented the proposed budget for 2002 and moved its adoption.
