Present were Arnold Wedel, Maynard Krehbiel, Ben Stucky, Gary Stucky, Rich Preheim, Jay Goering and Vernell Kaufman. Absent were Leann Toews, Harold Schrag and Ozzie Goering. Serving as resource people were Dennis Quiring, T. James Goering, Donna Kaufman Neufeld and Neva Belle Adamson Stucky.

Minutes of the June 6 meeting were reviewed. Approved by consensus.

9-4-02
Checking account $ 51.58
Cemetery endowment Fund $14,378.10
Swiss Money Market $5,599.75
Cemetery Building Fund $1,962.83

Treasurer's report approved by consensus.

T. James Goering and Dennis Quiring reported on the web. Dennis was commended for the fine job he is doing as Webmaster. Dennis said we need to be careful about what we put on the web. Material should first be given to the web committee. They should get permission to print articles and then pass them on to Dennis.

Announcement was made that J.O. Schrag's record, "Unsere Leit", is now available as a C.D. for $10. Decision needs to be made as to what percent J.O. should receive of the sales. Settlement has been made with the Art Goering family.

Scholarship Committee received four applications for scholarships. Three were approved by the majority of the executive committee--Jim Ostlund, Joe Sawatzky and Ruth Harder. Question was raised whether Ruth Harder qualified. Do you qualify because you are married to someone of Schweitzer descent?

Cemetery report--post markers have been put in place but need to be sealed for weathering--check with Vanada Co. Extra posts need to be stored properly. Need to put gravel, rock or wood chips around posts so mowing can be done properly. Need to fill holes and burn trash in southeast corner. Board members take note. The bulletin board committee is working. Von Peterson did an estimate of grave restoration. Total of 385 graves in the cemetery and about half need to have work done. It would be very expensive. Will families whose graves are restored donate enough to SMCHA to cover the expenses or should each family pay for their own? Von Peterson has the go ahead to restore Kenny Goering's grandma's grave.

Donna Kaufman Neufeld asked for items for the next newsletter--short stories or personal memories. Target date for the next newsletter is around Feb. 1. "Unsere Leit" (C.D.'s) should be advertised in the newsletter. J. O. Schrag should be asked to write a note concerning Martin H. Schrag's death.

Original intention was to have the cemetery go east to the trees. Should we offer to buy the adjoining land? Should Garber's Surveying measure the land? Arnold will check into the matter. Dedication of the Cemetery Directory Building will be at the annual meeting in February.

The Fall Banquet is scheduled for Oct. 31 at 6:30pm at the Eden Church with James W. Krehbiel as speaker. The secretary will mail announcements to the churches.

If we wish to have a spring banquet, it should be announced at our Fall banquet. Jerry Stahly is available as speaker if we have the banquet April 12. No definite decision made.

Meeting adjourned at 9:45am.

Next Meeting--Thursday afternoon Oct. 10, 3:30pm Eden church
