SMCHA BOARD MEETING MINUTES

| The SMCHA board met Jan. 9, 2003 at 3pm in the
Eden Church Fellowship Hall with Arnold Wedel presiding as chairman. Present
were Arnold Wedel, Ben Stucky, Gary Stucky, Maynard Krehbiel, Harold Schrag,
Ozzie Goering, Rich Preheim and Vernell Kaufman. Leann Toews and Jay Goering
were absent. Minutes of the Nov. 14 meeting wre reviewed and accepted by consensus. No treasurer's report was given due to the absence of the treasurer. After a lengthy discussion concerning membership, the following statement was agreed upon: Anyone who has contributed $10 during the fiscal year, ending Jan. 31, 2003 is a member. Membership dues ($10) for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2004 are due anytime after Feb. 1, 2003. The following announcement will be sent to the area churches concerning the annual meeting: As in past years, the 2003 SMCHA annual meeting to be held Feb.2, 2003 at the Hopefield Mennonite Church at 2:30pm, will be open to all SMCHA members (anyone who has contributed $10 or more during the 2002-2003 fiscal year, ending Jan.31, 2003) as well as interested non-members. Membership dues for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2004 will be welcome at the meeting. Arnold will ask Delbert Goering to be representative to the McPherson County Historical Society. The annual meeting to be held Feb. 2, 2003 at 2:30pm at Hopefield was discussed. Peter Voran will have devotions. No finalized budget could be propsed due to the absence of the treasurer. Scott Waltner and Victor Stucky were in attendance for a short time to discuss the cemetery boundaries. Hopefield will write an agreement, deeding to SMCHA 2.98 acres extending the south boundary 12 feet and the east boundary 30 feet to the hedge. Rich moved, Ozzie seconded that we increase the amount paid to Hopefield for mowing, by putting $1,500 in the proposed budget for mowing. Carried. Hopefield has been paying for marker maintenance. From now on SMCHA will pay marker maintenance expenses such as lighting and light bulbs. Ben moved, Gary seconded that we authorize Arnold to sign for payment for gravestones for Anna Wedel and Jacob Wedel. Meeting adjourned at 4:50pm.
